An elevated expressway transformed into an open-air art space. Roof Park Art Fes 2026 invites visitors onto the KK Line, the former Tokyo Expressway, for a nine-day festival of large-scale contemporary art and immersive light installations. Normally closed to the public, this stretch of elevated infrastructure opens exclusively at night, offering a rare opportunity to experience the city from a completely different perspective. As darkness falls, monumental artworks interact with the architecture of the former road and the surrounding Tokyo skyline. Highlights include Orange Object X, an installation imagining a communication device connecting Earth and outer space; HALO, a light sculpture inspired by the orbit of a distant star; and SUN Installation, an immersive environment of colour and light. Internationally recognised artist YOSHIROTTEN also presents INVISIBLE: A Signal of River, a large-scale installation exploring the hidden history of the river that once flowed beneath the city. On November 28 and 29, visitors can also experience SHIODOME SPACE-KK-RAFT, a contemporary circus performance combining timber, movement and acrobatics to explore Tokyo's history and resilience. Presented as part of the Roof Park Project, the festival offers a glimpse into the future of the KK Line as it transitions from a road designed for cars into a public space for people.
This event runs from Sat, November 21, 2026 at 05:00 PM to Sun, November 29, 2026 at 08:30 PM.
