The 27th TOKYO FILMeX 2026

The 27th TOKYO FILMeX 2026

from Tokyo FILMeX

November 20 - 29

TOKYO FILMeX returns for its 27th edition, bringing a selection of independent and auteur-driven cinema from Japan, Asia and around the world to Tokyo. This year's programme explores the connections between individuals, families and communities, with films reflecting the complexities of contemporary society. The competition features 10 films, including four feature directorial debuts, with filmmakers from Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Nepal and beyond. The wider programme also includes special screenings, international selections and a dedicated Made in Japan section. Highlights include works by internationally recognised filmmakers such as Jia Zhangke, Tsai Ming-liang and Hong Sang-soo, alongside emerging voices in Asian cinema. Screenings will also feature opportunities to hear directly from filmmakers through post-screening Q&A sessions and guest appearances. Taking place across three cinemas in Yurakucho, TOKYO FILMeX offers an opportunity to discover distinctive perspectives and new directions in contemporary cinema.
