We're looking for creators to connect with in Tokyo

More than the work, we want to meet the people.

umu is an independent media platform based in Tokyo, sharing the *past, present, and future* of creators from Japan and abroad. Every story is published bilingually in Japanese and English.

We’re looking for creators who are interested in joining our interviews.

Why Tokyo

Tokyo is a city where tradition and innovation, local and global, constantly intersect.

Here, people from different backgrounds meet, inspire one another, and spark new cultures and creations.

Why umu

Being a creator is not only about titles or awards. It’s about values, choices, and the struggles that shape your path.

We believe that sharing these words can encourage others who are creating something of their own.

And for the creators themselves, it’s a chance to put their journey into words and let their story travel beyond language barriers.

Who we’re looking for

Creators who live, work, have lived, have visited, or plan to move to Tokyo

Creators in fields such as graphic design, illustration, photography, film, music, fashion, and beyond—whether professional or hobbyist

Creators who want to put their thoughts and experiences into words and share them with a wider audience

About the interview

An online interview of about one hour, or alternatively, written responses to a list of questions.

Based on your answers, the umu team will create a text-based article.

The article can be in Japanese or English (translation will be handled by the umu team).

You can review and edit the draft before publication

Participation without showing your face or revealing your real name is possible.
